Peace is a real possibility.
Let’s talk about it!

The current world situation scares me. The majority of us will feel the same way. What particularly touches me is that the only solutions to the discussed crisis involve further violence. I admit that I can’t think of anything better.

The few voices that point to the necessity of diplomacy, especially in hopeless situations, i.e. that assume the possibility of non-violent solutions, find little resonance in public discourse. However, wars are not ended on the battlefield but at the negotiating table.

When I ask myself why patterns of thinking that avoid violence have such a low chance of being discussed in public, I suspect that the idea, anchored in our Western thought, is that „man is sinful and evil“ (Augustine and Thomas Aquinas) is responsible.

However, I refuse to believe that the people of my parent’s generation, it is the generation of the perpetrators of Auschwitz, were inherently incapable of love, empathy and peacefulness. I also refuse to believe that the mostly young Russian men who took part in the massacres in Butchah were unable of human behaviour.

In both the so-called Old and New Testaments, peace and love are mentioned as man’s very essence (destiny). I assume that other world religions describe it similarly.

With H𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮 I believe that the ability to love was the essential driving force in our becoming human and that in our ability to love lies the chance to soothe conflict situations like the current one. We must also cultivate love for our natural environment if we are to succeed in avoiding an environmental catastrophe.

With 𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗻 („Basically Good“ 2020), I want to talk about how humans can cooperate, have peacefulness and love. The man from Nazareth, Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela would agree with me.

But we have to talk about peace!

If we only talk about weapons, we will not see peace.

I believe that we are free to realise love and peace in politics, private and work life.

You, too, can increase your capacity for love and peace if you deal with yourself in an interested and appreciative way.
